CLASS A (TRACTOR TRAILER)

To practice driving for a Class A (Tractor Trailer) Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), you’ll first need to obtain a Commercial Drivers Instruction Permit (CDIP). You cannot practice driving a rig with just a regular driver’s license. UTTS offers a PERMIT PROGRAM, once every 4 weeks from 8am to 5pm. Please see the permit tab/page for future dates of this program.

If eligible, you’ll need to pass a CDL A Permit test to obtain a CDL A Permit. This test does not involve driving. It’s a written exam, it is a lot like the one you passed for your regular driver’s license. The difference is, the questions are multiple choice and only address Commercial Driving topics.

CLASS B (STRAIGHT TRUCK)

To practice driving for a Class B (Straight Truck) Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), you first need to obtain a Commercial Driver’s Instruction Permit (CDL B). You cannot practice driving a rig with just a regular driver’s license. UTTS offers a PERMIT PROGRAM, once every 4 weeks from 8am to 5pm. Become prepared by studying your state’s CDL manual and taking a few practice tests for the permit, readily available here. UTTS offers a PERMIT PROGRAM, once every 4 weeks from 8am to 5pm. Please see the permit tab/page for future dates of this program.

Class B, students must have both their Learner’s Permit and D.O.T. Physical prior to program start date.

CLASS B WITH PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT (BUS)

To practice driving for a Class B with Passenger Endorsement Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), you first need to obtain a Commercial Driver’s Instruction Permit (CDIP) with Passenger Endorsement. You cannot practice driving a rig with just a regular driver’s license. UTTS offers a PERMIT PROGRAM, once every 4 weeks from 8am to 5pm. To start our Class A course, you need a Class A permit and a Department of Transportation Physical (D.O.T. Physical). To start our Class B program, you need a Class B permit and a Department of Transportation Physical (D.O.T. Physical).
